Kursen syftar också till att utveckla studentens möjligheter att välja och skräddarsy datainsamlingstekniker utifrån ett forskningsproblem och vald forskningsstrategi, samt hur man analyserar data och drar slutsatser från studien. Under kursen behandlas även frågor om forskningsetiska och god forskningssed.
