Kursen tar även upp mer teoretiska analyser av problem, t.ex. tidsfördröjningar på Internet, och ger kännedom om lokala och moderna trådlösa nät. Laborationsdelen i kursen behandlar socketbaserad nätprogrammering, klient-/serversystem och undersökning av paket med Wireshark. The course deals with protocols and techniques of the Internet, from basic protocols for transporting data on links to application-level protocols such as HTTP. The course also uses theoretical analysis to problems, e.g. time delays on the Internet. It also provides knowledge about modern wireless networks. The laboratory part of the course deals with socket-based network programming, client/server systems and analysing packages using Wireshark.
