Utbildningen ges på engelska och du läser med personer från olika delar av världen, alla med det gemensamma fokuset på statistikerprofessionen. Örebro universitet är ett av två universitet i Norden som ackrediterats av den europeiska statistikmyndigheten Eurostat som EMOS (European Master in Official Statistics), och kvalificerar dig för en svensk och internationell karriär inom officiell statistik. Här ges möjlighet att välja en praktik om 15 högskolepoäng (hp) på Statistiska Centralbyrån (SCB), Sveriges officiella statistikmyndighet. I utbildningen poängteras förmåga att kommunicera och samarbeta, dels för att identifiera organisationens informationsbehov samt förutsättningarna för den statistiska undersökningen eller dataanalysen, dels för att tydligt kunna kommunicera valda ansatser och resultat. Kunskaper du får inom exempelvis urvalsmetoder och ekonometri är relevanta inom framväxande områden såsom dataintegrering, 'big data' och statistisk inlärning, liksom andra där skickliga statistiker behövs. Ett särskilt fokus är på samhällsvetenskap och ekonomi. Programmet är uppdelat på fyra terminer. Den första terminen inleds med kurser i matematik och statistisk teori. Andra terminen består av två kurser i ekonometri, två kurser om teori och metod för urvalsundersökningar samt kurser i datorintensiva metoder och Bayesiansk statistik. Under år två kommer du skriva två masteruppsatser om vardera 15 högskolepoäng (hp). Därutöver har du 30 valfria hp, varav praktik på 15 hp är ett alternativ. The Master's program in statistics provides in-depth and broad theoretical knowledge, focused on applications and practical usage of statistical theory and methodology. It prepares you to take on an essential role in statistical modelling and design, and for making own methodological contributions. Would you like to do research in statistics? Our teachers also have extensive work experience and network contacts. As one out of only two universities in the Nordic countries, Örebro University offers a European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS) accredited by Eurostat - the statistical office of the European Union. The EMOS option includes a 15 credits internship at a statistical authority and qualifies you for an international career in official statistics. Communication and collaboration are emphasized, to prepare students for identifying an organization's information needs and the conditions for the statistical survey or analysis, and to clearly communicate the chosen approach and the results. The knowledge you gain in for example survey methods and econometrics, are relevant to emerging areas such as data science and integration, big data and statistical learning, as well as others where proficient statisticians are required. Applications are often related to economics and other social sciences. The Master's program is divided into four semesters. The first semester begins with courses in mathematics and statistical theory. The second semester consists of two courses in econometrics, two courses on theory and methodology for survey sampling, and courses in computer-intensive methods and Bayesian statistics. During the second year, you will write two theses of 15 credits each. In addition, you have 30 optional credits, of which 15 credits internship is an option within the EMOS-track
